Wallace the Pit Pony

Wallace the Pit Pony is part of Film Encounters, a heritage education programme produced and delivered by Jack Drum Arts for County Durham Primary School children and the communities they live in. It used re-mastered archive footage from the Northern Regional Film and Television combined with child friendly animation as the inspiration for a range of creative arts and media based activities to explore the local social history, customs and traditions of the Durham coalfield communities.

Over a 2 week period in 2011, 25 schools with over 1000 children visited the Durham Gala Cinema to watch the film commission complete with live musical score, participated in high quality music and film related workshops with local film educators and learn’t about their local heritage through the medium of film.
